Gross Darkness

Updated: Aug 10
Gross darkness falls upon us when we least expect
You see not friend nor foe, your hands grope to inspect

Screams and shouts of terror, your ears perceive
As darkness befalls the world,
Judgment upon those who won’t believe
You chose to live a life apart from the Holy One
Mocking and scorning His sacrificial crucifixion
So much chaos, calamity, hate, and fear
The only thing to do is draw close to God and keep Him near
Brother against brother, friend becomes foe
Sister against sister, mother betrays daughter; this is how it will go
Embarrassing and parading iniquity and sin
Believing in fables and lies told by men
Three days of darkness is just the beginning
Tribulation follows; this could be our ending
A repentant heart, our posture should be
A contrite spirit, the Savior must see
If it seemed unclear to you before
This day you will know for certain absolutely, for sure
Light and darkness, good and evil, right and wrong
Separating the goats and sheep, which side will you belong
Judgment, tribulation, darkness, and shame
Save your soul, proclaim His Almighty Name
The great and terrible day of the Lord draws near
It is not too late, listen, repent, it is God you must fear.

Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand— a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as never was in ancient times nor ever will be in ages to come. Joel 2:1-2 NIV
'For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. ' Isaiah 60:2 KJV
'These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” ' 2 Peter 2:17-19 NIV
'These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted—twice dead. They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. ' Jude 1:12-13 NIV
'And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.' Isaiah 8:22 KJV
'Hear and pay attention, do not be arrogant, for the Lord has spoken. Give glory to the Lord your God before he brings the darkness, before your feet stumble on the darkening hills. You hope for light, but he will turn it to utter darkness and change it to deep gloom. If you do not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly, overflowing with tears, because the Lord’s flock will be taken captive. Say to the king and to the queen mother, “Come down from your thrones, for your glorious crowns will fall from your heads.” And if you ask yourself, “Why has this happened to me?” (America)— it is because of your many sins that your skirts have been torn off and your body mistreated. ' Jeremiah 13:15-18,22 NIV
'Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness spreads over Egypt—darkness that can be felt.” ' Exodus 10:21NIV
The sun and moon will be darkened, and the stars no longer shine. The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and the heavens will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel. Joel 3:15-16 NIV

Deeply foreboding but so true. The God we serve is righteous and will not contend with man's carnal state forever. We have been warned. Mercy lies in the words of the Father that if we repent as a people he will relent from the destruction he tells us will come. Are we listening?
