The Great and Terrible Day of The Lord

Will you be here, Father, when mountains crumble, and dust is in our hair

Will you be here when our hearts are faint in hopelessness and despair

I hear your footsteps approaching, a steady and constant pace

I know our iniquity and sin have brought us to this exact time and space

Have mercy, Lord; we are dumb, blind, and lame.

We have chosen to disregard your commandments

and use your name in vain.

I weep and cry for our destruction is oh so close and very near.

Our cold and hard hearts tell us we have nothing to fear.

We think that because we are numbered, we can turn the tide around.

But soon our numbers will be washed away when judgment's wave hits the ground.

Our confidence and hope in our democracies, laws, systems, and coins.

We have put our trust in gods and idols of the land and beg our true God to join

We know nothing about what Jesus has done to truly set us free

We wrap ourselves in lies, deceptions, perversions, and iniquities

Judgment, oh judgment, will soon be here to turn a few hearts around

But woe to the fools who trust in man; only gravestones will be found

The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord is both wonderful and filled with strife.

Fear not, those beloved of the Lord, for your name is in His Book of Life

Terrible the day like never was or will ever again be

Great indeed is the return of our King, our Savior soon to see

'The Lord thunders at the head of his army; his forces are beyond number, and mighty is the army that obeys his command. The day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it? “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Joel 2:11-12 NIV

I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls. Joel 2:30-32 NIV

Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel. Malachi 4:4 NIV

The great day of the Lord is near— near and coming quickly. The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter; the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry. That day will be a day of wrath— a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness— a day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the corner towers. “I will bring such distress on all people that they will grope about like those who are blind, because they have sinned against the Lord. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their entrails like dung. Zephaniah 1:14-17 NIV

The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:20-21 NIV

Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at each other, their faces aflame. See, the day of the Lord is coming —a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger— to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, in the day of his burning anger. Isaiah 13:8-13 NIV

Powerful, brings about a great sense of humility. God is beyond awesome and contemplating his judgements is sobering.
