When my image of you was my earthly father. When I gave him your place in my heart.
His words tore me and wounded me. Lord, I knew you not.
When he was absent, and I felt abandoned.
When he caused my tears to fall.
When his anger struck fear in my heart,

I knew you not at all
When I turned to him for comfort and there was none to be found.
When my heart and soul longed for love, suffering and sorrow were around
When I hid my true self, for fear of rejection, turning others away from me.
I was ashamed of my imperfections.
When he hated, when he lashed out, when he left us all alone.
I thought him to be you Lord. But the truth for me was unknown.

"I am not a man! I am the God of the Universe!
I have created all! I AM that I AM! I am nothing small.
What man can compare? I am God Almighty.
The First and the Last! God Everlasting! What man would dare?
I comfort all who seek me. brokenhearted and lost.
My Son has suffered and paid all the cost.
I heal the wounded; I wipe every tear.
I live within you I am always near.
I will forsake you not, where man will soon fail.
My Love is sufficient it always prevails.

Oh, how little I knew of you, Lord, my Father, my God.
Your ways, your thoughts, your hands, Lord, I knew you not.
When I turn to you, you delight in me.
When I seek your face, you are there.
When I need comfort, your arms are open.
To you, no one compares
When my tears fall, you wipe them.
When my heart aches, you mend.
When I am afraid, you chase my fears.
When I am lonely, you are always here.
In your presence, there is continual peace.
With you, my soul is at rest, my heart is filled.
There is no longing, there is no want.
Oh, Lord, how little I knew of you.
I knew you not at all.
